Here's a recap of how McQuaid 's modified sports teams fared last week.
This is the final installment for the spring season.
Baseball
The Knights went 2-0 on the week. Logan Klein, '31 collected two hits and three runs
batted in, Anthony Montemaro, '31 pitched two scoreless innings and Ryan Calnon, '30
tossed three innings with four strikeouts. Luke Mosher, '30 played excellent defense,
catching 10 innings and throwing out two runners trying to steal bases.
Crew
The season concluded with the Knights' best performance, a fourth-place finish
in their morning trial at the Pittsford regatta. That earned them a head-to-head
race with Cascadilla of Ithaca, which Cascadilla won. Head coach Jon Covney,
'06 said coxswain Sebastian Tirre, '31 "learned a ton" through a rainy spring and less than
ideal river conditions. Miller Dall, '30 and Senan Fleming, '30 were were instrumental in
helping the newcomers improve. The coach said Ben Barenys, '30 "always seemed
to have the energy for any type of workout they had" while Lee Abbott, '31 and
Dominick DiVasto, '30 were quick learners and improved daily. Covney added that
Barneys, Dall, and Fleming will be "graduating" in the fall to become varsity
squad members.
Lacrosse
The Knights split their final two games to finish 1-5. They lost to Brighton 6-5 on
Tuesday and edged Honeoye Falls-Lima by the same score on Thursday. In the
Brighton game, goals were scored by Jack Ciardi, '30, Cormac Fitzsimmons, '30, Jason
Leusch, '30, Jax Odenbach, '31, and Eric Tolefree, '30 with Odenbach adding three assists. In
the win over HF-L, Odenbach added two goals, as did Colin Koecheler, '31. Kellan
Brown, '31 scored the other goal for the Knights and added two assists, while Ciardi
also had two assists. "This group proved something this season that most teams
twice their age never figure out — that resilience isn't built in the wins, it's built in
the moments you choose to keep going when everything says stop," head coach
Chad Anderson says. "We tested these young men at a level beyond where
modified lacrosse typically lives, and they didn't just survive it — they grew into
it. By the end of this season, they were playing with a maturity, a belief, and a
competitive edge that tells me exactly where this program is heading. I'm proud of
every single one of them. Competitors all the way until the end!"
Rugby
The Knights were off this week. They'll complete their season with a tournament
in Syracuse this Saturday.
Track and field
The last meet of the season was a torrid one, with temperatures reaching into the
mid-80s on the Franklin High track. The Knights still produced some of the
strongest performances of the season. Seventh-grader Jake Jones won a calculated
1500m race, pulling away in the last 250 meters and winning with a time of 5:38, a
personal best. Eighth-grader Ryan Stover, running in his last modified 1500m ever,
ran an impressive 5:48, good enough for third. Another highlight was the 4x100
relay, with the Knights represented by two teams. Both teams finished with
impressive times: the team of eighth-graders Gabe Ficicchia-Horvath, Holden
Glennon, Miles Weins and seventh-grader Algie Jessie recorded a third-place
finish with a time of 52.9 seconds, while the all seventh grade team of Connor
Parent, Guy Williams, Cooper Parent, and Austin Ladrigan (a last minute
substitution), ran a formidable 55.1. "It was an excellent season, and the running
program has lots to look forward to in the years to come," head coach Braden
Bodensteiner says.
